Guide to snow tubing in New Jersey

What’s snow tubing?

Snow tubing is the fun activity of sliding down a hill covered with snow using an inner tube. Participants sit and hold on to their tubes while cascading downhill.

With snow tubing, you get the thrill of moving at a fast speed and the circling movement of the tube as it goes down the hill. Each snow tubing run starts from the top of the hill, going down until the tube comes to a halt. The run distance can be 500 to 1,000 feet, depending on the length of the snow tubing lane.

Snow Tubing with Kids

Can you go snow tubing with the kids? Absolutely! Snow tubing is fun for the whole family! If your kids are going with you to a snow tubing resort, keep in mind the following snow tubing tips for their safety and pleasure.

Snow tubing tips for families

Keep these things in mind when snow tubing with your kids:

  • Choose a day session – It is much easier to monitor your children during the day. Also, nighttime tubing usually attracts older crowds. Choose a resort with lit or glowing lanes if you cannot go during the daytime.
  • Pick a spot where to meet up with your kids later. Thus, your kids will know where to go to report to you at the end of their session.
  • Bring sets of extra clothing. You want to change your wet clothes with dry ones for a comfortable ride back home.
  • Be there early – snow tubing resorts usually have their tickets sold out. Some only allow online booking, while others only allow in-person purchases. Make sure you are early for your scheduled timeslot. Otherwise, you will be told to come back some other time.

These tips for snow tubing are a must-remember to ensure your kids have fun and stay safe while snow tubing.

How much snow is in New Jersey (for snow tubing)?

When to go snow tubing in New Jersey? The minimum base of snow for snow tubing is 50 cm (20 inches). In New Jersey, the yearly snowfall is about 22.6 inches, particularly in the north.

The heaviest snowfall happens from December to March. For example, the Mountain Creek Resort in NJ receives an average of 5 cm of snow per week. In February, the average snowfall is 10 cm per week.

If a resort receives a scanty amount of snow for a certain period, they compensate by using snowmaking equipment. Some resorts can even offer snow tubing during the dry months. However, there are only a few of them that can do this, and it must be cold enough, so the snow doesn’t melt.
